Statement:
“ We have art to save ourselves from the truth.”
-Friedrich Nietzsche
Throughout my life, I have found that the degree to which I appreciate my surroundings
is often affected by how I perceive myself in the moment. When I was younger,
the information I took from the world and how I digested it was honest and
immediate. My unquenchable curiosity and unlimited imagination gave birth to
myths that were as tangible as reality. With age I have gained the capacity
to be critical and I choose to make an intellectual investment in my imagination.
My ongoing body of work is a tool for fusing autobiographical fact
with fiction. I am currently depicting in drawings the incarnations
of daydreams, which function as an escape from truth and as a suspension
of time. By interpreting these wishes into a visual reality, I hope
to rekindle a sense of hope and wonder about the world.
